Basic Resources

To expand its market, Basic Resources needed a reliable partner who combined transloading and storage capabilities. RiverLift Industries offer a "one-stop shop" that could meet all their company's needs.

Background
Basic Resources, Inc., a leading supplier of flux products for recyclers in the aluminum industry, was operating six blending facilities in the U.S. that served 21 states. Headquartered in Knoxville, TN, the company wanted to expand into Pennsylvania to help it meet the high demand for its products in the northeast.

Challenges
To reach its target market, Basic Resources needed a transloading and storage partner that could unload barges, rail cars and trucks. Because of the expense and variety of ingredients required to make its products, the partner needed to be experienced in handling a diverse range of materials. Customers received the products by end dump truck, so Basic Resources also needed a dependable trucking company positioned near the warehouse.

Solution
RiverLift had the experienced personnel, equipment and facilities Basic Resources needed. Strategically located just outside Pittsburgh with ready access to the river, Norfolk Southern Railway and key highways, RiverLift gave Basic Resources an excellent base for serving new customers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.

To meet Basic Resources' needs, RiverLift trained employees to operate their state-of-the-art blending system at the terminal, enabling raw materials to ship by truck, rail and barge to one location. All materials are neatly stockpiled next to the blending equipment, and RiverLift supplies the personnel and equipment to mix the final product and out-load trucks. Finally, RiverLift trucks deliver to the customers.

RiverLift is a "one-stop shop" with everything Basic Resources needed to expand its market in the northeast. Instead of making several calls to place an order and tracking down a trucking company to make the delivery, one email to RiverLift gets an order moving. Paperwork, including bills of lading, inbound, outbound and inventory reports, are handled without a glitch. If there is a question about a delivery, with one call a customer can find out when a load shipped and where the truck is in real time. The ability to ship out by Norfolk Southern Rail gave Basic Resources an additional alternative to reach customers.
